Citation | Distinguished for his researches on pathogenic Protozoa and diseases caused by them, especially leishmaniasis. As leader of Kala Azar Commission of the Royal Society made important contributions to knowledge of epidemiology of Mediterranean leishmaniasis; demonstrating the role of dogs as reservoirs of human infection. Was first to transmit Oriental Sore by the bite of sandflies. Established existence of distant strains of Leishmania specific to diverse sand-fly vectors. With Theodor, has done solid work on biology and taxonomy of these insects. His studies on cattle piroplasmosis, and on cultivation of parasitic protozoa, are well known. (List of 84 publications). |
