Title | Batchelor, George Keith: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to aero- and hydrodynamics. When working at the aeronautical laboratory in Melbourne he published useful mathematical papers on problems arising from experimental research. In 1945 he went to Cambridge to study the mathematical theory of turbulent motion. In this field he had made important contributions. He showed how turbulent motion can be represented by frequency spectra and related these spectra to the decay of isotropic turbulence. Recently he has written on magneto-hydrodynamics and Meteorology and has given some exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. He has published the standard book on homogenous turbulent motion. |
