TitleDanielli, James Frederic: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationDistinguished for his work on Cellular Biology. Of special merit is his investigation on the structure and permeability of cell membranes and his critical examination and further development of cytochemical methods applied to the study of localisation of alkaline phosphatases in tissues of vertebrates and invertebrates in relation to their secretory activity. Of great biological interest is his recent study of the functional relationship between the nucleus and cytoplasm of cells. This study, carried out by methods of enucleation and cross transfer of nuclei in Amoeba proteus and Amoeba discoides, has direct bearing upon the problem of cell differentiation.
