Title | Oakley, Cyril Leslie: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | After earlier work on zoological and pathological problems, C. L. Oakley has made his principal contribution in the extension of our knowledge of the toxins of the anaerobic bacteria of the genus Clostridium. Here he has introduced new methods of observation and has done much to systematise and classify our knowledge. He can be confidently described as the first authority in this important field. He has also made a significant contribution to our knowledge of the site of antibody production, stressing local production in the area infected and in the related lymph glands, rather than in the reticulo-endothelial system of the larger viscera. |
