CitationDistinguished for the application of a scientific mind and of scientific knowledge & methods to the design, development and management of chemical manufacturing plant & processes. He is responsible for the engineering work of ICI covering design and layout of its plants & the related engineering research & development work including instrumentation. He has taken a leading part in the collation & presentation of scientific knowledge to guide design & practice in the wide & complex engineering work of the process industries & for standardisation in that field.
In recent years he has contributed particularly to the application of scientific methods in the measurement & improvement of productivity including the related fields of applied psychology & industrial management.
As Chief Engineer & Superintendent of Armament Design of the Ministry of Supply, he stimulated & influenced, by his analytical approach, the development of weapons & their use including guns, small arms, rockets and guided projectiles.
