CitationDistinguished for his original work on the structure and stratigraphy of the North West Himalayas. His field work, including the geological survey and mapping of 20,000 square miles of Punjab, Hazara, Kashmir, Waziristan and Gilgit, resulted in a contribution to the study of tectonics which elucidated huge local problems and gave new and deeper insight into the whole mystery of crustal movement. Author of "Geology of India", 3 memoirs and 73 original papers. Recipient, Lyell Medal. He built up Raw Materials Division of 62 geologists and physicists, and is actively and successfully supervising and directing geological exploitation of atomic minerals.
