Title | Whittard, Walter Frederick: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | Dr. Whittard's contributions to our knowledge of the Palaeozoic (especially Valentian) stratigraphy and palaeontology of Siluria include he work for which he is best known. Valuable as these are, they comprise but a small proportion of the wide range of his researches. He was chief geologist in the Cambridge Expedition to East Greenland in 1929, and published four important papers on the results. His palaeontological publications include a revision of Ordovician Trilobites, detailed anatomical studies of Carboniferous and Triassic Amphibia and Reptiles, a monograph on Valentian Brachiopoda, and an account of a remarkable Tremadocian Worm. In spite of pressing administrative duties, his enthusiasm for research is unabated. A list of publications is appended. |
