TitleBaker, John Randal: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationRecommended for election on the ground of his valuable contributions ot cytology, particularly for his work on the histochemical recognition of lipine and the distribution and significance of various substances in the cell. His work is of particular importance for his clarification both of the criteria of histochemical analysis and of the nature of cytoplasmic inclusions. He has also done valuable service in analysing the origin of our present notions about the cell and other biological matters. During his earlier period he worked on the breeding seasons in mammals and birds in relation to latitude, and on sex determination and sex-intergrades in pigs. He has published books and papers on the development of scientific ideas, as in his "Abraham Trembley, Scientist and Philosopher", and on the objects of scientific investigation. A list of publications is appended.
