Citation | Distinguished for his researches on the Ionosphere, on airglow and on the nature of active nitrogen. Founder and leader of an active school of Ionospheric research in India. Was instrumental in establishing the Radio Research Committee (of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India), of which he was the first Chairman. General President, Indian Science Congress Association (1954-1955). His comprehensive treatise on the "Upper Atmosphere" has received world-wide recognition and is the first book of its kind. It is in many respects an original contribution and has stimulated researches on the high regions of the atmosphere. Author of a large number of papers by himself and his pupils, of whom he was the inspirer. |
