Title | Beale, Geoffrey Herbert: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | Following pre-war work on the genetics of flower pigments, Beale turned in 1947 to the genetics of Paramecium (underlined), and since then has played an important part in the great development of microbiological genetics which has characterised the post-war period. His outstanding contribution has been to clarify the complex interactions between genes and cytoplasmic states, and to show that particular conditions of the cytoplasm evoke the activity of specific genes. It is mainly as a result of his work that this example has become a main focus of recent discussions of the physiology of the nucleus. |
