Title | Siddiqui, Salimuzzaman: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 16 March 1961 |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | Distinguished as an organic chemist. His original researches have been almost solely in the field of Indian plant products from which he has succeeded in isolating a number of new colouring matters and terpenoid derivatives. His most valuable contribution, has, however, been to our knowledge of the chemistry of the alkaloids present in the bark of Holarrhena anti-dysenterica, more especially to the alkaloid conessine. These investigations were carried out in India prior to the separation of Pakistan. As the scientific director of the Pakistan Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, in spite of numerous difficulties, he has, with his broad scientific outlook and enthusiasm, already done much for the development of scientific research in the new State. He is the author of ninety memoirs a list of which is attached. |
