Citation | A leading figure among British crystallographers. His elegant and original researches on the effects of mistakes, randomness, distortion and small size in crystals, and on the intensity statistics of various kinds of symmetry have fundamentally influenced the development of crystal structure analysis techniques. In addition to building up an active research and teaching department of physics at Cardiff he has served for 6 years on the Executive Committee of the International Union of Crystallography and now edits Acta Crystallographica.
