Title | Brockhouse, Bertram Neville: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1963 |
Citation | Brockhouse has done more than anyone else to develop the technique of the spectroscopy of slow neutrons. This technique has been used by him at the Laboratories of Atomic Energy of Canada to give a wealth of new information about lattice dynamics of crystals, including metals, semiconductors and alkali halides, about skim waves in magnetic crystals and about the dynamics of liquids, especially water. The standard of his work has consistently been two or three years ahead of that of other investigators in this field, and has been recognised by the award of the O E Buckley prize by the American Physical Society and the Dudekl Medal Award prize if the Institute off Physics and Physical Society. |
