| Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to aero-elastic theory, the applications of matrices, and aerodynamics. He has been a pioneer investigator of aircraft flutter and of the influence of structural flexibility on the general stability of aircraft. He has been a pioneer also in the application of matrices to problems in mechanics and aeronautics. In aerodynamics his important contributions relate to improvements in wind tunnel design, cascade theory and flow through porous materials. Recently he has done important pioneer work on the stability of systems subject to acceleration. |
