DescriptionCertificate of Election
Citation typed
CitationDiscovery of the glyoxylate cycle (jointly with H.A. Krebs), and of the mechanism which controls the activity of the component enzymes of this cycle. Elucidation of pathways of oxidation of substances more highly oxidised that acetate, e.g. glycollate, in E.coli and Pseudomonads. Discovery of the primary steps of the pathway of synthesis of cell constituents from glycollate: in E.coli and Pseudomonads two molecules of glycollate form glyceric acid vis glyoxylate and tartronic semialdehyde. In Micrococcus denitrificans two molecules of glycollate form oxaloacetate via beta-hydroxyaspartate. Crystallisation and characterisation of tartronic semialdehyde reductase.
