Citation | Distinguished for researches in Lower Palaeozoic Stratigraphy and Palaeontology, applying where possible statistical methods with striking results. He has remapped the classic areas of Llandilo, Carmarthenshire and Girvan, Ayrshire, paying special attention to the Palaeontology and Structure. His study of the tectonics has thrown new light on the geological history of the Girvan area. As Commonwealth Fund Fellow in the United States he continued his work on the Palaeozoic faunas of Europe and America. He has made many valuable contributions to brachiopod studies and is collaborating on the Brachiopoda in the new treatise on Invertebrate Palaeontology. |
