Title | Eaborn, Colin: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Colin Eaborn is distinguished for his original contributions to our knowledge of the organic chemistry of silicon and related elements of Group IV. His interests include preparative methods, reaction mechanisms and the application of organo-silicon compounds in other branches of chemistry. He pioneered the study of the mechanisms of the reactions of organo-silicon and analogous compounds, using the techniques established for organic reactions. His rationisation of the several mechanisms of cleavage of the silicon-carbon and similar bonds, group migration in silicon compounds, reactions involving organo-silyl radicals and other interesting reactions is particularly noteworthy. Through these studies and the study of aromatic hydrogen exchange, he has greatly advanced our general knowledge of electrophilic aromatic substitution. He is the author of an authoritative book on organo-silicon chemistry. |
