Title | Cour, Leonard Francis La: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Since 1932 L.F. La Cour has been a pioneer in the development of techniques for studying the chromosomes of plants and animals. He has resourcefully combined a succession of later discoveries with his own methods both analytical and experimental in the study of meiosis, of X-ray breakage, of heterochromatin and of centromeres and nucleolar organisers. His studies ranging from blood cell precursors in mammals to pollen grains and embryo-sacs in plants have given new insights into developmental processes. In general over a period of forty years his exact and penetrating observations have helped chromosome research and have been recognised by individual investigators in all parts of the world. A bibliography of 53 papers is appended. |
