Date | 1974 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Professor M. R. J. Salton is distinguished for his pioneering biochemical studies of bacterial cell walls and bacterial membranes. He was responsible for developing a technique which enabled the preparation of bacterial cell walls in appreciable quantities free from cell contaminants, and thus made fundamental structural investigations possible. He did highly significant experiments on the nature of walls and then turned his attention to bacterial membranes. In this last field he has made extremely valuable contributions, especially on the enzymes associated with membranes, their location, composition and significance. |
