Title | Farmer, Frank Reginald: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1976 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Farmer has been responsible for the evaluation of safety on and around atomic energy plants for the last 25 years. It was he who evolved the statistical approach which related the probable frequency of accident with the magnitude of the risk. Farmer's system of analysis has now been accepted in most countries and indeed it is probably true to say that his work is better appreciated overseas than in this country; he was elected to be Founder-Chairman of the OECD Committee on Reactor Safety Technology and has held this post for six years. In recent years he has extended his system of risk evaluation to non-nuclear hazards and it is likely that it will be used by the newly formed Health and Safety Executive for which he does much work. |
