Title | Hooley, Christopher: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1977 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his work in the analytic theory of numbers and especially in the application of sieve methods. Hooley has made extensive studies of these intricate techniques and, as a consequence, he has succeeded in throwing light on a number of difficult problems. Particularly noteworthy are his researches on the celebrated conjecture of Artin concerning primitive roots, and on asymptotic formulae in the additive theory of numbers. Hooley's writings are characterised by their elegance of formulation, quite apart from their depth. |
