| Date | 1978 |
| Description | Citation typed |
| Citation | Richard Perham is distinguished for his contributions to our knowledge of the chemistry of proteins in multimeric assemblies. His novel methods of probing topography have provided the chemical counterpart to X-ray diffraction studies and have been instrumental in providing an understanding of secondary forces, in particular of ionic interactions, in the structure, activity and self-assembly of multimeric enzymes and of tobacco mosaic virus. His work on the pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex has opened up the precise chemical study of such enzymes and uncovered a remarkable system of active-site-coupling that can provide a new mechanism of rate enhancement in a multimeric enzyme. |
