Date | 1981 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his personal contributions in aeronomy and astrophysics, particularly to the understanding of dynamical processes in the Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere and in the interplanetary and interstellar media, and for his leadership in these fields of research. His many publications include fundamental studies of ionisation front stability in the interstellar medium, convection in the Earth's magnetosphere and the origin of magnetospheric particles, the terrestrial helium budget, structure and dynamics of the solar wind, diffusion of cosmic rays in the heliosphere and the acceleration of solar flare particles; these have had a strong influence on observational work. He has been involved in the design of various "space" missions and the interpretation of their findings. |
