TitleGabathuler, Erwin: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1984
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for a series of brilliant experiments on photoproduction of vector mesons at electron synchrotrons at Glasgow, Cornell and Daresbury, crucial to our understanding of photon-hadron interactions. Over the last years the candidate led a large international team at CERN on the most sensitive experiments ever undertaken on deep inelastic muon scattering. His detailed studies of cross-sections and secondary hadron distributions have provided vital evidence on the quark-gluon forces. He has played a prominent role at national and international level, serving as Division Leader and Research Director at CERN (Geneva) and in research Committees at the DESY (Hamburg), and CEA (Saclay) laboratories.
