Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Richard Treisman's research has focused on the mechanism and control of mRNA production in mammalian cells. He has made seminal discoveries about the control of c-fos proto-oncogene RNA synthesis by growth factor signals. His most significant achievements are: (i) the first detailed characterisation of a growth-factor controlled transcriptional regulatory sequence, the Serum Response Element (SRE); (ii) the identification, purification and molecular cloning of Serum Response Factor (SRF), a transcription factor that binds to the SRE; (iii) the elucidation of the molecular nature of proteins that bind DNA as a ternary complec (TCF) with SRF; (iv) his recent demonstration that the activity of the SRF/TCF ternary complex can be regulated by growth factor-induced phosphorylation. |
