Title | Anderson, Joan Mary: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1989 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Dr Jan Anderson has made outstanding experimental and conceptual advances in the understanding of the molecular organization of the photosynthetic membranes of higher plants and algae. Her demonstration of lateral heterogeneity in the distribution of plant thylakoid complexes and her elucidation of of its consequences are of fundamental significance. Other major contributions include the first physical separation of the two photosystems, the discovery and characterization of novel pigment-protein complexes, as well as environmental studies on the regulation of photosynthesis by light. Her innovative concepts and research have led to important conclusions oon the molecular mechanisms of light-harvesting, electron transport capacity and the light regulation of photosynthetic acclimation. |
