Citation | Distinguished for his original contribution to the understanding of mental disorders in the elderly. His investigations in the 1950's clearly established for the first time five main syndromes, together with the crucial demonstration of the difference between dementias and the affective disorders, as shown by both natural history studies and clinico-pathological correlations. These pioneering investigations constituted the essential basis for modern day neuroscience approaches to the study of Alzheimer's disease and other demnentias, and his development of clinical intruments also provided the basis for modern epidemiological studies. |
