Citation | Silverman is particularly good at developing new statistical theory which is relevant to real practical problems. His work on the estimation of probability densities is technically difficult mathematics which has been seminal in scientific and industial applications, and its influence has been the greater because of his concern for efficient computation. More recently he has extended his work to non-parametric regresssion and generalised linear models. leading to a much deeper understanding of spline techniques. His deep research on statistical inverse problems has thrown new light on spatial statistics and the reconstruction of images from imperfect data. |
