Title | Sykes, Alfred Geoffrey: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1992 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | A.G. Sykes is known internationally for his revealing studies on the reactivity of coordination compounds over many years and especially for pioneering research on the synthesis, substitution and electron transfer reactions of polynuclear compounds of Co, Mo, W, Cu, Cr, and Re. In more recent time, he has also made seminal contributions to understanding redox reactions of metallo-proteins. In particular, there have been experiments designed, to elucidate the switch-off mechanism for plastocyanain PCu(I) at low pH, to discern the most favourable regions for oxidants to react with cytochrome c, to monitor favourable pathways for intramolecular electron transfer and to assess the effect of distance and driving force on these reactions. |
