Citation | Harry Bryden is known internationally for the outstanding contributions he has made by careful observations, and by innovative analysis and interpretation of data, to the study of the meridional transport of heat in the ocean. He has also made fundamental and novel studies of the Mediterranean Sea, in particular of the control which the sill in the Straits of Gibraltar has on the exchange of water with the North Atlantic and on the high salinity within the Sea itself. He has led the planning and execution of international seagoing experiments and, through his research, has demonstrated the importance of the ocean in the control of global climate. |
