Citation | Peacock is distinguished for his significant contributions to our understanding of the cosmic evolution of extragalactic radio sources, the role of gravitational lensing in mapping dark matter and the large scale distribution of galaxies. He developed formalism for comparing the observed distribution of galaxies on various scales with the expected growth in cold dark matter cosmologies. Through his leadership of the "two-degree- field" galaxy survey, precise constraints on the amount & distribution of dark matter have been obtained. Peacock has also been influential, through his lectures and a major textbook, in inspiring young researchers in cosmology. |
