TitleDawson, Donald Andrew: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date20 May 2010
DescriptionCertificate of Candidate for Election to the Fellowship
CitationProfessor Donald Andrew Dawson, Professor Emeritus and Distinguished Research Professor, School of Mathematics and Statistics, Carleton University
Donald Dawson played a foundational role in initiating and developing the notions of measure valued Markov process and stochastic partial differential equation. These infinite dimensional models are of central interest to pure mathematicians working in probability and at the same time identify a powerful framework for articulating and studying models of large populations that diffuse and reproduce. These methods underpin parts of computational genetics. He has made many other deep contributions to probability. He has served as President of the Bernoulli Society, Director of the Fields Institute, and was a member of the EPSRC International Review of UK Mathematics.
