Title | Edgecombe, Gregory Donald: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 9 May 2018 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Gregory Edgecombe as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Dr Edgecombe is a global leader in research at the interface between molecular biology and palaeontology. His unique contribution has been to integrate morphology of Cambrian fossils with evidence from living animals and the latest genomic sequences, to generate "total evidence" evolutionary trees. This not only resolved the long contested relationships of the insects, but also clarified the earliest diversification of the major animal clades. He also has employed the spectacular diversity of arthropods from the Cambrian to the present as experimental material in testing phylogenetic methods, and has driven methodological advances in the analysis of large-scale combined datasets. |
