Citation | Andrew King has advanced our understanding of how the brain processes auditory information and integrates this with our other senses. He demonstrated that the mammalian brain contains a map of auditory space and how its development is shaped by sensory experience. His discoveries have also shown that the adult brain represents sound features in a remarkably flexible way and maintains perceptual stability by continuously adapting to the statistics of sound stimulation and to changes in input resulting from hearing loss. These findings are helping to improve treatment strategies at a time when the prevalence of hearing loss is steadily increasing. |
