Citation | Professor Ingrid Scheffer is distinguished for her outstanding contributions to our understanding of the genetic basis of epilepsy and the application of that knowledge in clinical practice. Her pioneering work at the boundaries of human molecular genetics, paediatrics and neurology has led to the phenotypic characterisation of novel forms of epilepsy and identification of the genes underlying these disorders. This has led to significant advances in the diagnosis and therapy of epilepsy and helped affected individuals and families minimise the severe handicap often associated with these diseases. |
