CitationFabiola Gianotti is an experimental particle physicist specialising in energy-frontier collider physics. She led the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European CERN Laboratory for the whole of the first three-year data-taking run, including for the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. She is an expert on calorimetry for particle physics, and of searches for supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. She has led the case to establish the long-term programme at the LHC. She is now Director-General of CERN.
