Description | Certificate endorsing election of Caucher Birkar as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | For Birkar's ground-breaking work on the Minimal Model Program within the field of Algebraic Geometry. This includes the proof of the long-standing conjecture on finite generation of the canonical ring, the existence of flips, and resolution of the Borisov-Alexeev-Borisov conjecture and boundedness of families of Fano varieties. This work has established him as the leader in the field, and has led to his being awarded the Fields Medal at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians, as well as prizes from the American Mathematical Society, the Fondation Sciences Mathematiques de Paris, and the Philip Leverhulme prize. |
