Title | Blencowe, Benjamin Joseph: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 28 March 2019 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Benjamin Blencowe as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Ben Blencowe has made seminal contributions to understanding tissue-specific RNA splicing and gene regulation in mammalian cells. He has pioneered methods for the quantitative analysis of the complex patterns of alternative splicing that are critical for fundamental processes, including stem cell differentiation. Ben and co-workers have created powerful new experimental and computational tools that have enabled a huge increase in our understanding of the mechanisms and sequences that control splicing. Ben's work has thus been fundamental to our understanding of how a limited repertoire of genes in mammalian cells can generate the enormous biological complexity observed at the protein level. |
