Title | Hacon, Christopher Derek: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 28 March 2019 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Christopher Hacon as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Christopher Hacon is distinguished for his work in algebraic geometry, especially for his contributions to proving the existence of minimal models of complex algebraic varieties in all dimensions. This is the crowning achievement in an area of mathematics that grew out of the Italian classification of algebraic surfaces and Hilbert's fourteenth problem from the early 20th century; it was wholly unexpected and has many consequences. He is the winner of a Clay Research Award 2007, the Cole Prize in Algebra 2009, the Feltrinelli prize in mathematics in 2011, the Moore research article prize in 2015 and the Breakthrough prize in 2018. |
