Date | 28 March 2019 |

Citation | James Rothman pioneered the study of vesicular trafficking using the biochemical cell-free reconstitution approach. This led to the identification of many of the components needed to generate and target transport vesicles along the secretory pathway. These include COPI coats and ARF GTPases that generate cargo-carrying Golgi vesicles, and the SNAREs that ensure specific fusion with the next compartment in the Golgi. For his original and fundamental work on the SNARE hypothesis he was a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2013. |
