Citation | Francois Guillemot has identified the key molecular steps that specify neural stem cells and their progeny in mammalian embryos and adults. Using advanced genomic technologies, he also uncovered how these molecular switches control the various cellular programmes, including proliferation and migratory behaviour, that characterise these cells. His work has provided a mechanistic understanding of the emergence of neuronal diversity. It also opens the way to map the changes that neural stem cells undergo beyond development, throughout adult life. This approach, which Francois is currently spearheading, is providing a molecular framework to understand brain function in health and disease. |
