Citation | Xin Lu has provided fundamental insights into cancer biology including the seminal discovery of the first protein family - the ASPPs - that regulates the target selectivity of tumour suppressor p53. This discovery revealed new pathways to induce selective killing of cancer cells, and led her to discover a new general nuclear import pathway and show how protein co-factors can regulate transcription factor target selection. She established that the ASPPs influence cancer initiation and can underlie brain abnormalities and sudden cardiac death. She was also among the first to identify how p53 responds to oncogene activation and DNA damage signals. |
