Citation | Hugh Osborn's long research career in quantum field theory has been marked by his perseverance and foresight in working on difficult and fundamental problems long before they became fashionable. In recent years this has paid off handsomely. His work has inspired a new generation of theoretical physicists, and has been a fundamental input to several recent developments, including the conformal bootstrap, which among other things has placed narrow bounds on the critical exponents of the 3d Ising model, and the proof of the a-theorem, which imposes important constraints on 4-dimensional theories of particle physics. |
