Citation | William Schafer is a distinguished neuroscientist who has made seminal contributions to understanding the genetic and neural basis of behaviour. His work is notable for its originality and interdisciplinary approach, and he has pioneered methodological approaches, including optogenetic neuroimaging and automated behavioural phenotyping, that have been widely influential in neuroscience. He has made significant discoveries on sensory transduction mechanisms and on the computational principles of neuronal microcircuits. Most recently, he has begun fruitful collaborations with leading network scientists and clinicians to investigate the structure and function of simple neuronal connectomes, revealing computational principles likely to be conserved in larger brains. |
