Description | Certificate endorsing election of Andrew Stuart as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citaion giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Andrew Stuart is an internationally renowned computational applied mathematician, distinguished for foundational work in numerical analysis of dynamical systems, in computational stochastic differential equations and at the interface of applied mathematics and statistics. In particular he is recognized for: developing a systematic theory of numerical algorithms which replicate dissipation properties; demonstrating the power of Lyapunov functions for convergence and time-asymptotic properties of numerical methods for stochastic differential equations; and developing and exploiting an elegant Bayesian framework for inverse problems. His work has led to rigorous interpretation of existing algorithms widely used in science and engineering, and creation of improved methods. |
