Citation | Jordan Raff has made seminal discoveries about the function and formation of centrosomes, changing the textbook view of these intriguing organelles, which help organise eukaryotic cells. Among these discoveries, he demonstrated that centrosome amplification promotes the development of cancer, as first proposed over 100 years ago, and he showed that, unexpectedly, a complex animal can proceed through most of development without centrosomes. Using state-of-the-art live cell imaging, he has recently made the remarkable discovery that centrosome biogenesis is timed and executed by a molecular oscillator, and he has proposed that similar oscillators might control organelle biogenesis more generally. |
