Citation | Patrick Cramer is a world leader in the structural biology of gene transcription and its regulation. He played a leading role in the structure of the first eukaryotic RNA polymerase, and followed this up with two decades of work on how it is regulated by large complexes and how it interacts with chromatin, the natural substrate in the genome of higher organisms. This has often involved pushing methodology to the limits of what can be done. He has also played an important leadership role in both German and international science, including since 2023 as Director of the Max Planck Society. |
