DescriptionThis correspondence is chiefly between D C Martin, Assistant Secretary at the Royal Society and R N Turner, the Chief Secretary in Jesselton. Other correspondents whose letters have been included in this file include Sir Joseph Hutchinson, Chair of the North Borneo Expeditions Committee, Secretary of the Royal Society [Sir Lindor Brown], Sir Howard Florey, President of the Royal Society and Tom Jones, answering on behalf of the Chief Secretary. The majority of letters relate to the first North Borneo expedition and include a letter of thanks from the Royal Society for the help received during the expedition, as well as a request from the Chief Secretary's Office for permission to distribute reports from the expedition locally. The final letters in the series relate to the proposal of a second expedition as well as thanking the Royal Society for panoramic print of Mount Kinabalu.
