Date25 September 1964 - 28 September 1967
DescriptionA large file which contains general correspondence relating to the work of the Tristan da Cunha study group. The correspondence includes letters from the Royal Society to invite potential members to join the group and their responses and letters to and from other interested institutions. These institutions included the Commonwealth Institute, British Antarctic Survey, the Commonwealth Office, Ministry of Defence, British Museum (Nat Hist), the Medical Research Council and various universities. The majority of letters concern the distribution of reports to interested persons and the future of research in Tristan. The file includes correspondence between the Royal Society and members of the Committee, particuarly the Convener of the study group, Dr Martin Holdgate, including arrangements for work with the British National Committee .
The content of the files has significant crossover with the content of EXP/4/3/1/4, but original order has been retained to demonstrate how the expeditions officer and staff kept their information, rather than merging the two together.
