DescriptionThe early correspondence in the file relates to finding personnel for the expedition, and in particular those with an interest in botany or ecology. This files includes the first letter of interest from Iain Bishop, who became the leader of the expedition. The correspondence covers topics such as the sort of work personnel expected to undertake, the destination of plant specimens [Kew in the first instance] and the follow up work resulting from the expedition. The last correspondence, written in 1973 concerns the purchase by the Department of Soil Science, Newcastle University of a mirror stereoscope which was bought by the Society for the expedition. Within this file are internal Royal Society notes, and an approved copy of a speech by Anthony Mathews to the second Latin American Congress of soil biology.

Please note there are no equivalent files of correspondence for other programmes that formed part of the expedition.
